“The Mountain’s Insides” : Fantasy Theater, Climbing and Spreading Over Soi Mountain
Due to it being situated above the plains, Soi Mountain has since ancient times been used as a strategic military point, and has relatively recently become open to the public. “The Mountain’s Insides” is a fantasy theater performance that lets the audience experience the special character of this place. The play begins from the point of meeting the theater usher at the entrance of Soi Mountain. Following the guide’s lead, audience members start the hike together, and while listening to the story, they soon begin to wonder whether it is history or fiction, and may even doubt the guide’s existence. At the end of the short 20 minute climb, the audience arrives at the observatory and as they face the Cheorwon plain, sounds arise from every corner of the mountain. These voices tell of Cheorwon’s past, remind of the stories from the guide’s narration, and lead the audience to experience a fantasy of moving between different times and spaces.
